Pinus strobus x ayacahuite "Forest Sky"

Mexican Pine "Forest Sky"

This is a hybrid pine, a cross of Pinus ayacahuite (Mexican White Pine) which has a Zone 7 hardiness, and Pinus strobus (Eastern White Pine). The foliage color and texture comes from the Mexican pine but it has the better cold hardiness of the Eastern White Pine. Cones are long loaded with resin. Great plant for home gardens to commercial and urban sites. Selected in the 1960's from seedlings at Yale Forest Research Center. This is still a smaller pine reaching a height of about 7’ in the first ten years and has a tear-drop shape.
